The Business of Fashion in Any Industry
We held our first Sunway Alumni Networking Mixer and Professional Development session of the year, and we were delighted to welcome back familiar faces and meet new attendees this round.
For this session, we were honoured to have Sunway ADTP alumnus Brian John Yim, Chairman of Active Fashion Worldwide Sdn Bhd, lead the session titled “The Business of Fashion in Any Industry”. The day began with an engaging icebreaker, allowing the alumni to get to know one another and introduce themselves.
To kick start the session, Brian invited the alumni to share their professional backgrounds, thoughtfully linking their experiences back to the session’s central theme on how concepts from the business of fashion can be applied across industries. Throughout the session, he shared valuable insights drawn from his own experience and expertise, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how branding, positioning, and profitability truly work in practice. He also highlighted key principles such as building a strong brand that stands out in competitive markets, balancing creativity with profitability and smart operations, and growing a business that remains sustainable beyond fleeting trends and short-term hype.
The session later continued with an insightful panel discussion which included Ms Liren from Stylo Fashion Design Technology Studies, allowing the panellists to address thoughtful questions posed by the alumni. Their perspectives provided further clarity and practical takeaways, enriching the overall learning experience. Following the session, we adjourned for lunch and networking. It was heartwarming to see alumni from different cohorts mingling, reconnecting, and sharing stories over a meal. Moments like these truly reflect the strength and vibrancy of the Sunway Alumni community.
