Art exhibition with a meaningful cause
We recently had the pleasure of organising a remarkable event in Sunway University, an art exhibition with a meaningful cause called “Artistic Autistic: An Art Exhibition For A Cause.” Our alumna from SET, Wenanita Angang, who also happens to be the reigning Miss World Malaysia, was our partner in this endeavour. The event, held on April 11, 2023, aimed to raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder and support those who are affected by it.
Wenanita collaborated with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) for this exhibition, where several beautiful and unique paintings created by autistic artists were displayed and sold for a minimum price of RM200. The proceeds from the sales went to NASOM and the artists, supporting their efforts to help autistic kids adapt to society.
The event began with an exceptional performance by Amira Daniea, who sang two melodious songs - “Tomorrow” and “Fly Me To The Moon.” Her performance was met with thunderous applause from the audience. Ms Lee, Director of Student LIFE, took to the stage to appreciate Wenanita, a former Sunway Student Volunteer (SSV), for her volunteering spirit and her heart for people. She encouraged everyone to contribute to society and make it a better place for all.
Honourary Secretary of NASOM, Mr Cason Ong, also shared the importance of being inclusive and supportive of those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder. Wenanita gave a heartfelt speech and made the first purchase of the day, setting the ball rolling for the art exhibition. Apart from the art exhibition, Autism Café Project was present with handmade accessories and clothing for sale. Visitors also had the chance to learn to make accessories themselves on the spot, making the experience even more meaningful.
The exhibition was a huge success, with several paintings sold. We express our gratitude to everyone who showed their support, both monetarily and by being present at the event. A special thank you goes out to Wenanita for working together with us and championing this worthy cause. You have been a tremendous inspiration to us all!
