We held our Alumni & Scholars Connect gathering over the weekend, and it was yet another meaningful opportunity for our alumni donors to meet and engage with the Community Scholars they have been supporting financially all this while.
Even before the event officially began, the alumni and scholars who had arrived early were already mingling and getting to know one another. The ice was broken effortlessly, and they bonded almost instantly - it was truly heartwarming to witness.
The event kicked off with a warm welcome and opening address by Ms Lee Siok Ping, Chief of Student LIFE & Services. She expressed her joy in seeing past scholars, now alumni, giving back and paying forward the kindness they once received. She also encouraged our current scholars to do the same when they eventually enter the workforce.
This was followed by a special sharing session featuring our alumnus scholar Vincent, along with current Community Scholars Izzah and Jolina. They spoke candidly about their personal journeys - the challenges they faced, the support they received, and the achievements they’re proud of. Their stories were moving reminders of how the scholarship helped them broaden their horizons and persevere through difficult times, and they shared their gratitude sincerely.
After hearing from our special guests, it was time for everyone else to share their own stories. In small groups, attendees were invited to introduce themselves and exchange experiences. For our current scholars, it was a valuable chance to seek guidance and advice from their seniors as they prepare for life after graduation.
At one point, Vincent took a moment to honour our VIP guests - Professor Dato’ Elizabeth Lee, CEO of Sunway Education Group, and Ms Lee Siok Ping - by presenting them with a token of appreciation. It was a gesture of gratitude for their unwavering support of our Community Scholars and their commitment to making education accessible despite financial challenges.
A highlight of the day was the launch of our Heart of Giving wall - a tribute to the donors who have generously contributed towards our scholars’ educational journeys. Alumni who were featured were excited to spot their names and eagerly took photos with the wall - it was a joyous and light-hearted moment.
We wrapped up the event over lunch, as alumni and scholars continued to chat, connect, and strengthen their bonds.
