Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

From Malaysia to Shenzhen, China, Sunway alumnus Arthur Wong Jun Keng dives deeper into the intersection of AI and personalised medicine, while pursuing a Master’s degree at Tsinghua University. Adapting to a new environment in one of the world’s leading technology hubs, he balances his studies with part-time work as a biology teacher. Arthur continues to embody Sunway’s spirit of “Aspire to Inspire” after graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Medical Biotechnology from Sunway University.
 

Arthur’s research focuses on medical devices, particularly organ-on-chip systems evolving into a “mobile laboratory” with the incorporation of specialised biosensors and curated AI software. Although the majority of his time is spent in classrooms, he frequents the laboratories as his research involves him collaborating with the university and local startups in Shenzhen to bring the organ-on-chip systems closer to the end users.
 

Beyond academics, Arthur stays active in sports by joining the Tsinghua University rowing and taekwondo team, representing the university in inter-university competitions. Reflecting on his journey in China, he credits the support of those around him: “I really believe meeting the right people and keeping them close were the most important decisions I made. Through their support, I was able to keep striving. It’s my way of repaying their kindness”. 
 

Arthur’s journey in adapting through changes and embracing the gaps in technology and language helped propel him in his life journey.
