Muadh S. Al-Mandhry completed his ACCA studies at Sunway in 2015. Naturally curious, Muadh always wanted to know how things worked and was constantly looking beyond the surface. This analytical mindset led him to an auditing and finance profession that thrives on critical thinking, structured analysis and a commitment to transparency.

Muadh credits Sunway for providing him a real-world perspective on finance and auditing in addition to academic knowledge through experienced lecturers who bridged the gap between theory and industry practices. The supportive learning environment developed skills such as effective communication, adaptability to dynamic situations, and collaboration with individuals from different backgrounds.

Reminiscing on his time at Sunway, Muadh recalled how the diverse student body allowed him the opportunity to engage with people from various cultural and professional backgrounds. This taught him tolerance, open minded thinking, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

His professional journey started in 2016 at PKF International in Nairobi, Kenya as Senior Auditor. This role provided him exposure beyond external audit, including tax, forensic audit, and business valuations, allowing him to develop a strong foundation in risk assessment and control processes.

In 2023, Muadh joined KPMG East Africa, also based in Nairobi. This move taught him large-scale engagements and complex audit methodologies. Being part of the Audit Technical Department further refined his expertise in technical research and advanced audit matters.

Muadh shares that transitioning into internal audit marked a significant career milestone for him. “It allowed me to take a more strategic role, focusing on strengthening controls, governance structures, and risk management frameworks”. He now leads a dedicated team to strengthen the organisation's risk landscape as Head of Internal Audit at Avenue Healthcare.

Throughout his career journey from auditor to Head of Internal Audit, he learned that auditing is more than just a technical process, as it requires passion, integrity, and strong moral upholding, especially when no one is watching. Rooted in his Islamic upbringing, Muadh truly believes that integrity is the key foundation of success and a value he never compromises on.

He also shares that growth and expertise take time, patience, and continuous learning, and in addition, it is important to genuinely trying to make an impact, challenge assumptions, and respect everyone, regardless of rank, to foster trust and gain deeper insights. Muadh also has navigated his career by positioning audit as a collaborative function rather than a fault-finding exercise. This has proven that auditing is a strategic tool for strengthening business rather than a procedural necessity.

For aspiring finance and audit professionals, Muadh offers simple yet profound advice: master the fundamentals, embrace continuous learning, and develop strong interpersonal skills. While technical expertise is essential, the ability to communicate effectively, build relationships, and adapt to evolving industry trends is what truly sets a professional apart. Above all, integrity remains the foundation of a successful auditing career.
