Choosing to study Accounting and Finance at Sunway University was one of the best decisions I made. Sunway’s strong academic reputation and global partnerships gave me confidence that I was starting on the right path. I was particularly drawn to the dual degree opportunity with Lancaster University, which was offered through the Accounting and Finance programme at Sunway. After completing my studies, I went on to train as a chartered accountant with the ICAEW. The programme at Sunway offered not only a solid theoretical foundation but also practical experience through its internship opportunities, preparing me for the realities of the financial world.
Looking back, my time at Sunway shaped more than just my career aspirations - it shaped me personally. Supportive lecturers, an industry-focused curriculum, and exposure to real-world applications helped me discover the career I wanted to pursue. I learned how to approach challenges strategically and gained the confidence to push myself further.
Beyond academics, my involvement with AIESEC at Sunway was equally transformative. The experience gave me hands-on exposure to leadership, project management, and working with people from diverse cultures. It pushed me outside my comfort zone, honed my communication skills, and instilled in me a global perspective that I carry with me to this day.
That perspective has been invaluable as my career has taken me across Mauritius, Dubai and now Luxembourg. Each location taught me something new, not just professionally but personally. Adapting to different cultures, embracing diversity, and staying open-minded became essential skills that helped me grow both inside and outside the workplace.
Working with leading firms such as EY, PwC and now Vistra came with high expectations and steep learning curves. One of the biggest challenges I faced was managing multiple demanding projects while meeting tight deadlines. By staying organised, prioritising effectively, and communicating clearly with colleagues and clients, I was able to overcome these challenges. These lessons taught me perseverance and the importance of continuous learning, qualities that continue to guide me in my career.
I’ve also been fortunate to have mentors and role models along the way. Their guidance and encouragement have influenced my decisions and helped me grow into the professional I am today.
Throughout my career, I’ve gained valuable experience analysing financial statements and working collaboratively with teams to find effective solutions for clients. The fast-paced nature of the auditing and accounting industry demands strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and clear communication. While it can be challenging, those experiences have taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of working well under pressure, lessons that continue to shape how I approach my work today.
For anyone aspiring to succeed in auditing and accounting, I believe integrity, adaptability, and a commitment to lifelong learning are essential. Technical expertise is important, but so are collaboration and communication skills.
Although the industry is demanding, what makes it fulfilling is the impact we create. Helping clients make informed decisions and solving complex financial challenges gives me a strong sense of contribution. Most importantly, this career has opened doors to opportunities across the world, and that global journey has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life.
