A Creative Journey Shaped at Sunway

Since graduating with a Master of Arts in Visual Communication & Media Studies (MVCMS) at Sunway University, my professional journey has been both transformative and deeply rooted in the lessons I gained during my time in the programme. What began as a background in Performing Arts evolved into a clear pathway into media, marketing, and content creation, a shift largely shaped by my academic experience.

I have been a student at Sunway University since 2017, when I began my degree in Contemporary Music (Audio Technology), graduating right in the midst of a global pandemic. During those years, I immersed myself in the Malaysian arts scene, exploring roles from acting to production management. However, it was the desire to continue learning and expand my creative horizons that drew me back to Sunway University’s School of Arts to pursue the MVCMS programme.

The course offered an extensive variety of modules, complemented by some of the most experienced and inspiring lecturers. One of the most influential was Associate Professor Dr Zuhaili (Dr Z), who taught Brand Identity and Narratives. His hands-on teaching style, grounded in real-life case studies and industry experience, fundamentally reshaped how I approached creativity and communication. The class pushed me to think strategically, understand brands beyond aesthetics, and view ideas from multiple perspectives. Through campaign-style projects, executing briefs, and working within real-world constraints, I developed practical skills that translated directly into working with clients and producing media. It was also the class I enjoyed the most: rigorous and challenging, yet incredibly rewarding.

Under Dr Z’s guidance, our cohort was encouraged to be bold, take on challenges head-on, and celebrate our creative instincts. We were encouraged to compete on industry platforms such as The Kancil Awards 2024, where we reached the finals, and the MDA d Awards 2025, where we secured second place. These experiences strengthened our resilience, collaboration, and confidence as emerging creatives.

Today, I work at The Rakyat Post (TRP) as a Content Creator, developing multimedia content across digital platforms through scripting, storyboarding, and video production—skills firmly rooted in what I learned at Sunway. To this day, I remain grateful for the educators who believed in our potential and helped turn my passion into purpose.
